Summary
A painted deal clothes press, English or possibly Welsh, circa 1770. Painted black or very dark brown. Topped by a moulded and dentil-carved cornice above a fluted frieze. The upper cabinet section with two panelled doors (one with a later brass lock and handle) enclosing four deal slides. The base of two short over two long graduated drawers, all cockbeaded and with brass handles, backplates and escutcheons.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
