Summary
A mahogany commode seat, English, early 19th century, a very near pair to [NT 1147348]. Fitted with a white ceramic chamber pot cover [NT 1147355.2]. With an arched backboard fitted with a serpentine-fronted brass-hinged shelf. The open arms straight and on turned and ring-turned supports either side of a seat with hinged flap. Concealing a softwood board pierced to accommodate a chamber pot, and fitted with a removable softwood cover. The legs square-section.

Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
