Summary
A mahogany shelf, part of a mahogany commode seat, English, early 19th century, a very near pair to [NT 1147355]. Serpentine-fronted and fitted with brass hinges to the backboard. The open arms straight and on turned and ring-turned supports either side of a seat with hinged flap. Concealing a softwood board pierced to accommodate a chamber pot, and fitted with a removable softwood cover. The legs square-section and with internal chamfer.

Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
