Summary
The central drop-leaf section of a mahogany and fruitwood drop-leaf dining table, English, or possibly made locally in Wales, circa 1770. The two demi-lune ends - probably not originally made to fit this central section - NT 1147292.1 & .2. Of extremely unusual construction, the top made from multiple slender fruitwood boards, rather than single wide boards. The fixed top of two boards, the drop-leaves - hinged with iron - each of four slender planks. The end friezes arched and all raised on four chamfered and moulded square-section legs, and two conforming hinged gatelegs.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
