Summary
A chair, one of a set of four fruitwood - possibly cherry - chairs, English, provincially made, late 18th century. Part of a set with two fruitwood stools [NT 1147169.1 & .2] Three with later horsehair-stuffed seat pads covered in olive green twilled wool circa 1976, another with later seat pad covered in white cotton. A ladderback chair, the back of four serpentine horizontal splats with piercings. Raised to the front on simple cabriole front legs and plain outswept rear supports with internal chamfers.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
