Summary
A mahogany chair, English, circa 1770-80. The almost square back with moulded toprail, and enclosing a 'wheel'-shaped splat, around a central solid oval. The bowed seat upholstered in wool and velvet with a stylized shape in blue within a white Greek key border. The front legs moulded and chamfered and joined to the chamfered and outswept plain rear legs with side stretchers. -- The seat is reputed to have been embroidered by Victoria Yorke (1823-1895).
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
