Summary
An oak corner or desk chair, Welsh or English, late 19th century, one of a pair. The one-piece toprail and arm with a raised central cresting and carved throughout with stylized foliage. Above a pair of lozenge-carved boarded splats and three turned balusters. The seat covered in red cotton rep. Raised on fall cup and cover-turned legs joined by a block- and reel-turned 'X'-from stretcher centred by a turned spire finial.
Provenance
Probably purchased at the sale of the contents of Hafod House, Ruabon, the home of Henry Dyke Dennis (1863 - 1944) in 1908. Thence by descent, and given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
