Summary
One of a pair of mahogany cheval-type fire screens, English, late 18th century. Fitted with a rectangular mahogany frame carrying a sliding panel lined with green velvet, which is now brown, and with small brass knob handle. Raised on a ring and vase-turned stem on a spreading circular base, weighted to its underside with lead.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
