Summary
A mahogany stand, English, mid-18th century and with later modifications (its drawers NT 1147017.3 and .4; the bookcase cabinet it supports NT 1147017.1). The stand, probably modified, of mahogany veneered onto oak, and with unusually deep friezes. Fitted with a pair of drawers lined with oak and with brass bale handles with circular brass backplates. The legs square-section and without a chamfer.
Provenance
Reputedly purchased by the Yorkes in 1904 from a sale of the goods of a 'Colonel Wilson', whose property has been variously recorded as both Ately House and Otchy, and has not been traced. Thence by descent until given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
