Summary
A mahogany bookcase cabinet, English, mid-18th century, raised on a stand, mid-18th century but with modifications (the stand NT 1147017.2; the drawers in the stand NT 1147017.3 and .4.) The cabinet topped by a moulded cornice inlaid with satinwood dentils above a pair of astragal-glazed doors with brass hinges and thread escutcheons. The interior fitted with three mahogany-lipped adjustable softwood shelves.
Provenance
Reputedly purchased by the Yorkes in 1904 from a sale of the goods of a 'Colonel Wilson', whose property has been variously recorded as both Ately House and Otchy, and has not been traced. Thence by descent until given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
