Summary
A mahogany writing table, or chamber table, English, circa 1760. The top inset with later baize, and with moulded edge. The frieze fitted with two short and cockbeaded drawers, both lined with oak and with softwood runners, and fitted with a later turned ebony or ebonised wooden handle. The bottom of the frieze applied with a moulded bead. Raised on four legs with pronounced inner chamfer. One leg replaced in oak. The legs headed by pierced fretwork spandrels (some lacking).
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
