Summary
A painted vase stand, one of a pair, English, circa 1770. Anonymous, but with similarities to carved and giltwood pieces at Erddig, possibly supplied by Thomas Fentham (d. 1808). Hexagonal and waisted. Painted green and off-white. Carved to the top with a circular depression for a vase, the edge bolection-moulded, reeded and tied with ribands. The waisted section applied to the prominent angles with a tied riband issuing pendant drops of husks joining a husk wreath topped by a sunflower. The lower moulding carved with foliated and floral scrolls, the corners with anthemion like clasps. The straight-sided foot fluted and with acanthus clasps to the corners. The rear side of the stand without decoration to the waisted section, or to the plinth.
