Summary
A surcoat in dark purple silk velvet, lined with white satin. The lining shows as white piping around all the outer edges of the velvet. The sleeves and top of shoulder are of an odd construction, more like a cassock than a coat. There is an off white silk double ribbon attached to the waist at the back. Made for Lionel Tollemache, 4th Earl of Dysart, when he was invested with the order of St Andrew or Thistle in 1743.
