Summary
Portait miniature, painted on enamel, Lady in a Black and Pearl Dress, called Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603) but possibly Dorothy Wentworth, Mrs Lionel Tollemache by British (English) School, late 18th or early 19th century. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait, slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, in a black dress lavishly embroidered with pearls and pink bows, quilled ruff, swansdown cap with pearl-encircled jewel, and elaborate pearl ear rings. Blue eyes, neat fair hair, pale complexion. Brilliant blue background.
