Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on vellum on card, General George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle KG (1608-1670) attributed to Nicholas Dixon (c.1645 – c.1708). after 1665. Three-quarter-length, turned to left, facing, holding a baton in his right hand, wrist on an anchor, in a gold striped doublet, buff surcoat, crimson sash, lace collar and cuffs, riband of the Garter. Dark brown eyes, long dar hair, small moustache and chin tuft, loking about 45 but probably nearly 60. Dark brown stone background, lurid sky to left.
