Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on vellum, Lady Dorothy Sydney, Countess of Sunderland (1617 – 1684) by studio of John Hoskins the elder (Wells c.1590 – London 1665). Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a young woman, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator in a purple scalloped dress with brown trim, with a sumptuous brooch, buff robe, pearl necklace and double ear-drops. Grey eyes, fair hair in ringlets dressed with flowers, pale face, aged about 25. Dark background, lit from top right.
