Summary
One of a set of four painted wall hangings - recorded in accounts, possibly painted by John Ballergons. Paint on coarse canvas/hemp. Borders have strapwork cartouche lower centre inscribed with Bible reference. Hardwick arms centre top. Flowers and fruit with red/blue urns and seated monkeys. 'ES' centre sides. Battle scene with soldiers on horseback. Saul fallen from his falling horse. City in background with inscription above 'Saul Saul, why persecutest thou me'. 'The Actes, Ch.IX'.
