Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lady Margaret Kennedy, Mrs Thomas Radcliffe-Livingstone-Eyre (styled Countess of Newburgh erroneously) (1800 – 1889) by Orazio Manara (Parma 1804 – ?Paris after 1872). Oval. Bust portrait, facing, wearing dark decollete dress and white wrap. She was the daughter of the 1st Marquess of Ailsa. In 1817 she married Thomas Eyre of Hassop, who laid claims on spurious grounds to the earldom of Newburgh.
Provenance
in Lady Louisa Cavendish 1860 catalogue of Hardwick Hall; thence by inheritance until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959
