Caption
The sitter was the son of John Fitzgibbon, 1st Earl of Clare (1749-1802), the Lord Chancellor of Ireland. He was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Limerick (1848-51), and married on 14 April, 1826, Elizabeth Julia Georgiana, third daughter of Peter, 1st Lord Gwydir.
