Summary
Oil painting/miniature on board, Commander Frederick Greville Egerton, RN (1869 – 1899), The Hon. Francis Egerton, RN (1824-1895), and Lady Louisa Caroline Cavendish, Lady Egerton (1835-1907), after William Carter (Swaffam 1863 – Swaffam 1939). Three portraits in a single frame. The bearded figure of Admiral the Hon. F. Egerton is framed in an oval, as also is that of his wife Lady Louisa Egerton, daughter of the 7th Duke of Devonshire. The central figure, in a rectangular frame, is that of their son, Commander Francis (Fritz) Egerton.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959
