Summary
Oil painting on oak panel, King Henry VIII (1491–1547), British (English) School, inscribed in capital letters mid right: HENRICVS. YE. 8, circa 1535. Bust portrait, looking to right, bearded and with long hair, wearing a gold embroidered doublet, white shirt, fur cloak and black cap with feather, a Tudor rose held in his right hand, his left resting on a cushion in front. Light green background. Painted shortly before 1536, when the king 'caused his head to be polled and his beard to be knotted and no more shaven'.
