Summary
An oak press cupboard, or clothes press, English, early 19th century. Topped by a moulded cornice above a plain frieze and a pair of panelled doors enclosing side slots for shelves or slides. With waist moulding above two short and two graduated long drawers, lined with pine and fitted with turned wooden handles. On a plinth base.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
