Summary
An olivewood, ash, deal and oak side table, English, circa 1670 - 1690, possibly en suite with a candlestand [NT 1127713], the top with olivewood oysters veneered onto deal and with boxwood line inlay, the single long frieze drawer oak-lined and with other oak elements to the carcass, the spiral- and baluster-turned legs of ash, united by a shaped 'X'-form stretcher with ogee-shaped ends, and on ball feet.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
