Summary
A mahogany mule chest, one of a pair of mahogany mule chests, English, circa 1740, having a hinged 'caddy' top above two rows of two short lip-moulded and oak-lined drawers, on bracket feet, fitted to either end with a brass carry handle.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
