Summary
A leather-covered four-fold screen, English, probably late 18th/early 19th century, each fold arched, the leather embossed with strapwork cartouches filled with sprays of flowers, in gilt and polychrome, the reverse panelled and black-painted with highlights in red and blue.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
