Summary
A mahogany and upholstered settee, English, circa 1770. With roll-over arms and raised on eight mahogany legs with lacquered brass caps and castors. Upholstered in linen and with a loose glazed cotton cover of floral chintz with red and pink carnations and floral sprays.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
