Full description
One of a pair of European made flintlock pistols for the Turkish market, c1800. Iron barrel formed in 2 stages, octagonal at the breech, then round to the muzzle, the breech engraved and stamped with unidentified proof ? marks. The barrel tang engraved. Secured to the stock by 2 barrel pins. There is no provision for a ramrod. Barrel length 19.5cm Calibre 15.5mm. Walnut full stock, the grip flared at its base for an iron butt-cap. The wood inlaid with silver wire and pellets in a decorative design. Engraved iron furniture comprising; butt-cap, trigger guard and 2 small side-plates. Engraved flintlock, the lockplate with a “stand of arms” design and initials AI and II. Secured to the stock by 2 side-nails (1 pistol with side-nail missing). Overall length 34.2cm
