Summary
19th century light oak copy of a 16th century French cacateuse armchair, the panelled back framed on three sides by four rows of chip carving, the sharply tapering seat supported on rectangular legs behind and turned ones in front joined with moulded stretchers; the bowed arms supported on turned uprights that are a continuation of the front leg.

Bearing an enamelled label of 'William Watt - Art Furniture Warehouse - 21 Grafton Street and Gower Street, London W.C'. Designed by E.W. Godwin - part of the Shakespeare Suite illustrated in 'The Builder' 1881.
