Caption
In 1953 the Romanian artist Dimitrie Berea visited London during the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. While staying in the capital he produced a number of paintings of famous landmarks, often showing them decorated for the festivities. Many of these images are now in the Government Art Collection. This painting appears to have been executed during the same visit. In thick impasto, it depicts the Houses of Parliament from a viewpoint on the south bank of the river on the Albert Embankment, near Lambeth Palace, where a number of boats are moored.
