Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Ruins of the Cathedral of St Vaast, Arras (after Sargent) by Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, DL, OM, CH, PC, MP (1874-1965), 1920s, unsigned. A copy after a painting at Houghton Hall, Norfolk, entitled 'Ruins of Arras Cathedral', signed and dated John S. Sargent Arras August 1918. It is one of two copies of the picture by Sir Winston Churchill; one remained with Philip Sassoon (owner of the Sargent paining at the time of Sir Winston’s copying), the other at Chartwell.

The Studio, Chartwell; purchased by the National Trust from Arabella Churchill (1949-2007) in January 2007.
