Marks and inscriptions
Engraved "LLMP"(?) and "M.K." and maker's mark "W.G. 1627" Letter: "Dear Mr. Churchill, You will never have heard of me but my brother Stephen Brown LLM, Coroner for Craven, used to write the daily Fighter Command Reports from Stanmore, for the Cabinet and the Air Ministry and I am sure that you must have read some of these. I listened to a recording of parts of your speech at Llandudno, a few nights ago and read the whole speech which was in our Sunday paper. It was an magnificent address and I am so glad that you do realise our plight- this Communist menace which is spreading through the world. During the last war, I heard the broadcast of every speech you made, and have bought practically every book you have had published, including "Marlborough, His Life and Times". You will know from this that our family is staunchly Conservative, we never have and never will vote for another party. You have done more for the British Empire and the World than anyone before. Without you we would have never survived. From your speech I know that you fully realise our danger and that you will know what has to be done in the hour of need. You could, confidentially, discuss the matter with Viscount Montgomery and Air Marchall Ladder (?) I will send during the next two or three days my oldest seat-top spoon date 1620 to 1630 in a blue tin box with a ship on it as a small gift. Yours sincereley, Constance M. Brown"
