Hand coloured engraving by Thomas Malton, of the Library at Sledmere, designed and executed by Joseph Rose in 1794. Underneath engraving: "The Library at Sledmere the Seat of Sir Chrisr Sykes Bart in the East Riding of Yorkshire. 100 Feet long, 15 Feet Wide, 25 Feet high Published Novr 5th 1795 [faint] by J. Rose No. 14 Queen Street East" Left corner: "Designed and executed by Josh Rose in 1794" Right corner: "Drawn & Engraved by Thos Malton". Paper on board. Signed in ink: "Coloured and reshadowed by Jos. Rose"
Provenance
Possibly given by Joseph Rose to Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Baron Scarsdale. By descent to Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale and the Kedleston Estate Trustees. Acquired by the National Trust through purchase in 2002.
