Summary
Watercolour on paper, Sketch for a panel on the Great Staircase [?] or Saloon[?], described by the 1st Baron Scarsdale as "A Persian Caravan", or "A Caravan halting and refreshing itself" (see Leslie Harris, "Robert Adam and Kedleston", p. 62. Information based on a notebook dating from 1768 in the Muniment Room). With a note by Lord Curzon: "Sketch by William Hamilton for Panel on Great Staircase. Described by 1st Lord Scarsdale as Persian Caravans (unexecuted)". William Hamilton was responsible for four large paintings above the doors in the Saloon (c. 1787).

Created by William Hamilton for Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Baron Scarsdale. By descent to Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale. Acquired by gift as part of the transfer of Kedleston Hall to the National Trust in 1986.
