Summary
Oil painting on canvas, George Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, KG, GCIE, PC, MP (1859-1925) in the Robes of Chancellor of Oxford University by Sir Hubert von Herkomer, CVO, RA (Waal 1849 – Budleigh Salterton 1914), 1907 - 1914. A three-quarter-length portrait, seated, turned to the left, glancing to the right, in black and gold robes. Curzon was elected Chancellor of Oxford University in 1907 during his spell in the political wilderness after his return from the Viceroyalty of India in 1905, and the death of his first wife in 1906. He threw himself into the reform of the University as a partial alleviation of these griefs.
