Royal Geographic Society Gold Medal 1895 presented to George Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, KG, GCIE, PC, MP (1859-1925) in 1895 because of his extensive travels in Asia and its influence on his life. Curzon later became President of the Society. Medal is in the form of a glazed gold coin designed/manufactured by W. Wyon and depicts a female classical deity holding out a laurel wreath with a map in her other hand and a globe in the background, with a portrait of Queen Victoria on the reverse.
Provenance
Gifted to the National Trust in 1986 by Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000).
