Summary
Royal Geographic Society Gold Medal 1895 presented to G.N. Curzon in 1895 because of his extensive travels in Asia and its influence on his life. Curzon later became President of the Society. Medal is in the form of a glazed gold coin designed/manufactured by W. Wyon and depicts a female classical deity holding out a laurel wreath with a map in her other hand and a globe in the background, with a portrait of Queen Victoria on the reverse.
Provenance
Gifted to the National Trust in 1986 by Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000).
