Summary
An Indian mouthpiece for a hookah known as a mukhual or monal. It is made of brass with gilt. There are three sections to the mouthpiece. The lower section connects to the hookah cord and is tubular in shape with repoussé floral work, the centre of each flower has been shaped to give the illusion that it has an inlay of precious stones. The middle section is made up of eight fishes that transport the fumes to the third section which is a bulbous shaped mouthpiece that repeats the floral decoration. 'A partly gilt silver hookah-mouthpiece' (Christie's entry)
