Summary
An inlaid painted hardwood cabinet, Chinese, 18th century. With inlay of semi-precious stone and mother-of-pearl. The lid of the cabinet is hinged and on the exterior depicts a bird and butterfly; the interior has a relief design of two roses. The two front doors depict, in semi-precious stone, several female figures and children. The interior of the chest has four drawers that have a painted design of flowers, grapes and vines and pumpkins. The lid and two doors can be secured by a single bronze lock. Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
