Summary
A Japanese lacquer shrine to house a sculpture of Jizo. The shrine has intricate brass mounts including a clasp in the shape of cherry blossom. The shrine is made of lacquer with a gilt inlay of a clan crest on the exterior. The inside is gilt throughout and there is a removeable base in the shape of a mountain for the seated figure. Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
