Summary
Bronze sculpture, Narcissus or Dionysus, cast by J. Chiurazzi et fils (Naples 1840 - 1915). A youth looking down, head cocked; body in S-shape pose; circular base, stamped 'Chiurazzi, Naples'. The original was discovered in 1862 in a humble Pompeian house and is now in the Museo Nazionale, Naples. It was named Narcissus by the director of the Naples Museum, Giuseppe Fiorelli. Because of the crown of ivy and the nebrid it is more probably Dionysus.
