Summary
An oak panel-back open armchair, late 16th century. With later replacement elements, i.e. the seat boards and feet, and modifications. Topped by a cresting rail with cusped top edge and central run moulding (this piece possibly re-claimed) above a back of two plain panels within rails with edge mouldings. The arms (one replaced) downswept flanking a replaced seat and raised on front legs with notched uprights, and an unusual central muntin. With front foot stretcher, and high side stretchers. The rear legs re-tipped and the front legs raised on later bobbin-turned feet.
Provenance
Given by Henry Hornyold Strickland (1890 – 1975) with Sizergh Castle and its estates in 1950.
