Summary
An ebony and ebonized cabinet on stand, Italian, last quarter of the 19th century, in the 17th century style. Inlaid with engraved ivory, tortoiseshell and hardstones, and mounted with ormolu. The cabinet with arched pediment and three ormolu putti mounts, above a central door inlaid with ivory engraved with a scene of Amor catching Venus by the wrist, and between six short drawers and a pair of tapering marble pilasters with ormolu capitals, and above a long drawer. The stand fitted with a long drawer with fall-front and claret velvet-lined writing surface. On four baluster and ring-turned tapering legs joined by an 'H'-shaped stretcher with central finial. All-over inlaid with small panels of red tortoiseshell, blue hardstones and engraved ivory arabesques, foliate scrolls and motifs.
