Summary
Model; Ship - Model of a wooden-screw Sloop, possibly Roasario class. Typical of the fast, heavily armed British screw sloops built in the mid-nineteenth century which carried a variable armament of guns. The steam-driven screw propeller was hoisted up when under sail and the telescopic funnel was lowered to clear the sails. The model was probably made up by a sailor or engineer as the metal fittings are of a particularly high standard.
