Summary
The stand for an ebony, agate-mounted and ripple-moulded cabinet, Italian, the cabinet circa 1750, the stand circa 1880. Fitted with eight twin-panel drawers, each inlaid with mother-of-pearl outer border and inset with an oval agate stone in a silver metal mount and with lapis lazuli to each corner, various colours, all flanking a central deep drawer between projecting columns and with secret drawer to the reverse, a balustrade gallery above and a further drawer below, the stand with pierced spiral-twist legs joined by a central cross stretcher and on bun feet, the ebony frieze panel earlier in date and carved with scrolling foliage and a pair of cherubs either side of a crown.
