Summary
A ceramic cup in plain white glaze with gilding around the rim. A black and white transfer of a Bleriot monoplane is applied to the inner surface of the cup. On the front of the cup there is a full colour transfer of four Allied flags incorporating a sunray pattern and garland with the words 'For Honour and Liberty'. Underneath the flags is a black and white transfer of HMS Lion. One of a four part set (with saucer, mug and dish), commemorating the Allied Victory at the end of the First World War. Made by Chelson China (a trade name for the New Chelsea Porcelain Co. Ltd) for Harrods, c.1919. HMS Lion was a battlecruiser built for the Royal Navy and served as the flagship of the Grand Fleet's battlecruisers throughout the First World War.
