Summary
A mug and plate with brown printed transfer portraits of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, Royal insignia and flags. Made by Royal Doulton to commemorate the King's Coronation in 1902. The Coronation of King Edward VII (1841-1910) and Queen Alexandra (1844-1925) took place in Westminster Abbey on 9th August 1902. It was originally planned for 26th June 1902, but the King was taken ill so was postponed until August. They were crowned King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and as Emperor and Empress of India. As such, flags and symbols of countries in the British Empire often feature on commemorative ceramics from this period.
