Full description
English “Sea Service” pattern flintlock military pistol, c1810, by Samuel Galton, Birmingham & London (active1799-1818). Round iron barrel with turned moulding at the breech, and stamped with the “Kings view and proof marks” of the Ordnance. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel pins. The ramrod missing. Barrel length 23.3cm. Calibre 16mm. Walnut full stock with a carved apron to barrel tang and stamped JW on the left side. Brass furniture comprising; pommel cap, trigger guard, side-plate and 1 ramrod pipe. A long iron belt hook with screw fixing is attached to the left side of pistol. Flintlock of flat form, line engraved and signed on the tail of the plate, “Galton”. Stamped under the pan with the Royal cypher. The cock with a ring-neck. No bridle to frizzen. Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails. Overall length: 40cm
