Full description
Elizabeth Robinson (later Montagu) (1720 - 1800) was one of several children of Matthew and Elizabeth Robinson, who rented half of what is now Treasurer's House in 1717. Elizabeth and her closest siblings, including the writer Sarah Scott (1720 - 1795) and M.P. Matthew Robinson (later 2nd Baron Rokeby) (1713 - 1800), were born in York and spent some of their childhood in the house until the mid-1720s. As an adult, Elizabeth became well known as a literary critic, writer and patron of the arts who helped to organize and lead the Blue Stockings Society.
