Summary
Eight day longcase regulator in mahogany veneered case, by T.Airey, Liverpool, c.1880. The four pillar, A-frame movement has Harrison’s maintaining power and dead beat escapement with double brass pallet frame clamping agate pallets. The high numbered train has12 leaf pinions and six straight crossings to the wheels. The wood-rod pendulum has a brass cased lead-filled bob. The top of the suspension block has beat setting nuts to secure the suspension firmly and adjust the beat of the clock. The brass-cased driving weight has an attached pulley. The 12” round, silvered-brass dial is signed across the centre: “T Airey Liverpool”. There are observatory marks at five minute and five second intervals). The mahogany veneered, arch top case is glazed at the front and has a short base, now standing on a second mahogany veneered base. The glazed door opens for access to the movement and dial and has a lock on the left as well as two brass hooks for retaining the door closed. There is a small glazed panel on the upper left of the case to view the movement. Note: The lower mahogany base is almost certainly a later addition.
