Summary
A goncalo alves and mahogany centre table, English, probably by Gillows of Lancaster, circa 1825. With a rectangular top with rounded corners. The friezes applied with an upper and lower bead, and with two short frieze drawers flanked by floral patera. On a pair of fluted, turned and reeded supports, each with a gadrooned lower collar and on a platform support, with scroll feet concealing castors. Attributed to Gillows of Lancaster on the basis of the timber, the floral patera to the friezes, and the style of the end supports and platform feet. See 'Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730 - 1840' for similar examples. -- Once probably one of a larger set, as three of these tables, of varying sizes, are photographed in the Saloon circa 1870.
